Originally from Rome, NY and a graduate of the RFA 2013 class. In High School, Winberg was a three season athlete. He played soccer at the Freshman and Junior Varsity Level, subsequently changing sports to run Cross Country for his junior and senior year. Clearly the better choice as he made the state meet for XC his senior year. During the winter and spring seasons, he ran Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field.  Erik has 11 years total of competitive track and field experience, in addition to 6 years of competitive XC experience.

Winberg graduated from Utica College in 2016 with a Major in Heath Studies and a Minor in Health Care Ethics. He is currently in his 3rd year of the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Utica College.

While competing for the Pioneers, Winberg went on to set the UC college record in the 8K for Cross Country posting a time of 25:32. Winberg currently holds the record for the indoor 1000 meter, 1-mile, and had a leg in the record setting DMR team.  In outdoor, Winberg had a leg of the 4 x 800 meter team which currently holds the record. His outdoor track bests are a 400 meter of 50.6, an 800 meter of 1:54.7, and a 1500 meter of 3:57.33. His efforts helped men’s UC Track and Field team to win their first Empire 8 conference championship in spring 2016.

Erik passed his CSCS exam in February of 2018, and was a former student on clinical for RMPT.  Erik works primarily out of the main gym at SPI and assists lead trainers Steve, Amanda, and Nate with programming. Erik is the lead trainer for the Speed Program Session, which launched this summer.
